2023 Partnership School Awards

Partnership School Award Winners – 2023

Seven schools earned 2023 Partnership School Awards from the National Network of Partnership Schools (NNPS) at Johns Hopkins University. They are using research-based approaches to develop effective and equitable programs of family and community engagement.

Like all schools in NNPS, the award winners are working to ensure welcoming schools for all partners in students’ education. Using the NNPS Framework of Six Types of Involvement at school, at home, and in the community, schools conduct goal-linked partnership activities that contribute to student achievement in specific subjects, attendance, behavior, health, and other goals for student success.

In their award applications, schools’ Action Teams for Partnerships (ATPs) described an activity to involve more and different families or to produce results for student success in school. Repeat award-winners must show how their programs are improving over time. The activities (below) are part of each school’s annual One-Year Action Plan for Partnerships (also submitted). Guidelines for school programs are in the NNPS book: Epstein et al., (2019). School, Family, and Community Partnerships: Your Handbook for Action, Fourth Edition. Thousand Oaks, CA: Corwin Press.

This year, school award applications required information on how the ATP is going beyond implementing a good activity to strengthen the school’s partnership program with teamwork, input from families, and support from colleagues. Awardees documented the members and positions of teachers, parents, administrators, and others on the ATP. Principals signed the application to acknowledge and support their ATP and the school’s partnership program. All of the activities—and more from other schools in NNPS—are reported in the NNPS collection, Promising Partnership Practices 2023 at www.partnershipschools.org in the section Success Stories.
