Partnership District and Organization Awards 2023

Three districts and two organizations earned 2023 Partnership Awards from the National Network of Partnership Schools (NNPS) at Johns Hopkins University.

  • District leaders are recognized for guiding schools’ Action Teams for Partnerships (ATPs) to develop, implement, evaluate, and continually improve their programs, plans, and practices of school, family, and community partnerships.
  • Organizations in NNPS have various agendas. Some organizations guide district leaders to work with their schools to build stronger partnership programs. Other organizations have funded projects to work directly with a set of schools. This year, the two organizations that earned awards are located at universities. They guide regional, district, and school leaders in different ways, e.g., in college courses for future teachers and/or in workshops for practicing educators to improve their programs of family engagement.

NNPS guides district and organization leaders to address six leadership strategies as they guide the development of partnership programs at all policy levels:

(1) increase awareness of the work on family and community engagement

(2) align partnership plans and practices with official policies

(3) provide training to district and school leaders and others on partnership program development

(4) share knowledge to help others plan, implement, and evaluate their partnership programs

(5) celebrate successes

(6) evaluate progress

Award applicants also submitted their annual Leadership Plans for Partnerships. Repeat winners must show how they are improving their programs over time to promote sustainable programs (not just isolated activities) of family and community engagement for student success. Activities conducted by the featured districts and organizations are summarized in this section. Details on these and other district and organization activities are in the NNPS collection, Promising Partnership Practices 2023 at www.partnershipschools.org in the section Success Stories.

Guidelines for district and organization leaders are in Chapter 7 of Epstein, et al., (2019). School, Family, and Community Partnerships: Your Handbook for Action, Fourth Edition. Thousand Oaks, CA: Corwin Press.
