2017 Partnership School Award Winners

Thirteen schools earned 2017 Partnership School Awards from the National Network of Partnership Schools (NNPS) at Johns Hopkins University. They are applying research-based approaches to develop comprehensive, goal-linked programs of school, family, and community partnerships.

Like all schools in NNPS, the award-winners are working to create welcoming schools and to conduct partnership activities that help improve student achievement in specific subjects, attendance, behavior, health, post-secondary planning, or to meet other goals for student success.

In their award applications, schools’ Action Teams for Partnerships (ATPs) described activities that met the challenge of involving more diverse families and that helped produce results for student success in school.  Repeat school winners that earned awards in the past had to show how they improved their programs over time.  The featured activities are part of each school’s annual One-Year Action Plan for Partnerships (also submitted). Guidelines for school programs are in the NNPS book: School, Family, and Community Partnerships: Your Handbook for Action, Third Edition (2009, Corwin Press).

The award-winning schools show how they are developing eight “essential elements” for effective partnership programs: leadership, teamwork, written plans, implemented actions, funding, evaluation, support from colleagues, and networking with NNPS and others.  Some of the schools’ activities are described in detail in the NNPS collection Promising Partnership Practices 2017.
