Twelve schools earned 2015 Partnership School Awards from the National Network of Partnership Schools (NNPS) at Johns Hopkins University. They are applying research-based approaches to develop comprehensive, goal-linked programs of school, family, and community partnerships and for making excellent progress in the 14-15 school year.

Like all schools in NNPS, the award-winners are working to create welcoming schools and to engage all families and community partners in ways that help improve student achievement, attendance, attitudes, behavior, and post-secondary planning. Five schools (see *) earned Special Recognition and a $500 prize for their work and progress.

In their award applications, schools’ Action Teams for Partnerships (ATPs) described successful family and community involvement activities to meet the challenge of involving more diverse families and to produce results for student success in school. Repeat school winners that earned awards in the past also showed how they improved their programs over time. The featured activities are part of each school’s annual One-Year Action Plan for Partnerships (also submitted). Guidelines for school programs are in the NNPS book: School, Family, and Community Partnerships: Your Handbook for Action, Third Edition (2009, Corwin Press).

The reports from award-winning schools show how eight “essential elements”—leadership, teamwork, written plans, implemented actions, funding, evaluation, support from colleagues, and networking with NNPS—affect the quality of partnership programs and practices.
